Ecstatic Lovemaking: An Intimate Guide to Soulful Sex
Published in Paperback by Conari Pr (09 January, 2002)
Authors: Victoria, Ph.D. Lee, Gayle Prather, and Hugh Prather
Average review score:

Reader from California
Read this book together...it is a beautiful gift. Sharing the book helped us explore our needs and feelings. So often, I found it seemed difficult to express myself, but reading the book together, the words started to flow---from a place of love and connection and our devotion for each other. Miracles can happen!

People of Faith: Read This Book
This book helped me to enjoy my love life more than I ever thought I could. I'm a religious woman who finds most sex books either offensive or not helpful. Ecstatic Lovemaking really touched me because it showed me that a great sex life with my husband is perfectly consistent with having the deep faith I have and know I always will have. The chapter on how "Sexuality and Spirituality Do Go Together" said it all.I also used to feel that my husband had no clue what really turned me on. Now he understands that I need to feel emotionally and spiritually close to him before I want to be sexually close to him. I think it was worth getting the book just for that, but my husband says the best part is that now I seem to want to make love with him as much as he wants to with me.

Give This Book to Your Man!
My husband and I had some breakthroughs in our sex life because of this book. I bought it because of Hugh Prather's Foreword, because I trusted what he said about how our sex life could improve if we studied this book. He was so right! We learned to understand each other so much better, and we actually have been having some sexual experiences we both think are "ecstatic." We always had a good sex life, but we had some problems and conflicts about it too. Now, we're closer than we've ever been, and I know it's just going to get better and better. Thank you, Dr. Lee!

Embracing the Beast: Breaking Free from Anger
Published in Paperback by Strawberry Hill Pr (October, 1998)
Author: R. Lee Paulson
Average review score:

Helped me answer huge questions of my own.
An incredibly insightful journey! Lee's work and the wisdom from his teachers along the way helped me answer huge questions of my own. An enlightening read for anyone on the path to conscious awareness.

A brutally honest story that gifted me with understanding.
Kudos to Lee Paulson! Embracing the Beast, his healing journey, includes all the elements of a great autobiography: it's revealing, humorously self-aware and avoids blame. Lee's brutally honest story gifted me with understanding and compassion for those of my loved ones, friends and co-workers who struggle with anger.

Help yourself to understand and overcome anger
The telling of two stories entertains, provokes and enables one to look at and live life differently. Mr. Paulson provides tools of empowerment to help one understanding and overcome anger. I was deeply touched by this book and encourage all who are plagued by the roots of anger to read and learn from one man's experiences. This is a book worthy of gift giving. I commend the author for his courage to write of his personnel journey and thank him for sharing his pain and joy on behalf of others

Experts Speak concerning Witness Lee and the Local Churches,
Published in Paperback by Living Stream Ministry (01 November, 1995)
Author: Living Stream Ministry
Average review score:

Best resource for anyone researching the "local churches"
There was always a shadow hanging over my head about the "local churches." I knew there had been a controversy some years before I was born, and this book cleared everything up very much. I'm so glad I found this book. It tells of the lawsuit the "local churches" filed against the writer of a book against them. This is quite possibly the best resource for anyone who wishes to research the validity of the teaching of Brother Lee. The book is entirely unbiased and simply records the trial as it was.

An Excellent Resource
This book is an excellent resource for those seeking to learn the truth about the ministry of Witness Lee. The book offers printed testimonies of five expert witnesses who testified on behalf of Witness Lee and the local churches in Alameda County Superior Court on May 28 and 31, 1985.

Although the book is derived from an obvious controvery which began in the early 80's, the testimony of these five witnesses validates the sound theology of Witness Lee's ministry. Even some 16 years later, this book serves as a valuable resource for those who are seeking the truth, despite the negative contentions made by a few opposers.

The truth is the truth
The truth is the truth. It must be faithfully upheld.

Falling Flesh Just Ahead: And Other Signs on the Road Towards Midlife
Published in Paperback by Longstreet Press (April, 1998)
Author: Lee Potts
Average review score:

Absolutely the funniest book I've ever read!
Lee's Falling Flesh Just Ahead is the funniest book I've ever read. Her humor makes you realize that it's okay to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously. I bought seven additional copies, after reading mine, to give to friends. They all loved it! In this competitive world, women can place themselves under more pressure than ever before. At the same time, we have these strange things going on in our bodies. We can easily forget that there may be a very simple explanation. Instead, we become paranoid, and more stressed out. Lee Potts helps put things back into their proper perspective. One should read this book every six months, at least, just to remind ourselves that it's okay to laugh!

made me laugh out loud!!!
This book was right on - with exact details of the FUN of being a baby boomer that is close to 40. I laughed out loud at many of the comparasions. I love it!!

Without a doubt, the funniest book I have ever read!
The only disappointment to be found in Falling Flesh Ahead is reaching the last page. I did not want it to end! Lee Potts has apparently remained completely undetected as she lurked in my bedroom, bathroom, and within many of my social encounters. I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face and my husband refused to remain in the room with me. This is an absolute MUST READ and I have already ordered 7 more to give as gifts. I am ten years older than the author, but found her book to be insightful, wildly funny, and refreshing. I read it at one sitting on Sunday night, and I am still chuckling. What a picker upper! Please, Ms. Potts, MORE - SOON!

A Fateful Choice

Author: Rachel Lee
Average review score:

One of the Best
This book was one of the best I have read in awhile. I consider it up there with Nora Robert's Montana Sky. It was very suspenseful - keeping you guessing to the very end. Thank you Amazon for helping me to find this wonderful author. I am looking forward to reading the author's other books under the names Rachel Lee and Sue Civil-Brown. I would highly recommend this author.

EXCELLENT CHOICE!
Wow! This is an excellent book of suspense and romance nicely tied together to keep you guessing right until the last page! I didn't want to put the book down! The author does an incredible job writing suspense/romance. I agree with the reviewer who suggested a T.V. movie. Whew...you'll be on the edge of your seat!!

great reading
I loved this book. I've never read Rachel Lee's books before but I will defenitely from now on. It was one of those books you could hardly put down. You wanted to see what was going to happen next. I give this book a 10

Feathering Your Nest: An Interactive Guide to a Loving Lesbian Relationship
Published in Paperback by Rising Tide Press (August, 1996)
Authors: Gwen Leonhard, Jennie Mast, and Lee Boojamra
Average review score:

An eye-opening book on lesbian relationships
I have recently separated from my love of 6 years. Unfortunately I read Gwen's book too late to save that relationship. But...Wow....Feathering Your Nest will assuredly help me with potential and hopefully lasting lovers. I eagerly await any forthcoming books from this lady who obviously understands the problems and the pleasures that we lesbians experience in our relationships. LuAnn Mathia

An Excellent Guide to Any Rewarding Relationship
This book is funny, warm, straight-forward, creative, and solution-oriented... a real breath-of-fresh-air when it comes to books on/about relationship. It is personable and often light-hearted while at the same time serious enough to be grounding. It is practical. All relationships can gain from it; I heartily recommend it for smiles and joy, and a grateful heart for that beautiful, special someone in your life--man or woman! An excellent resource, no doubt about it!

"Feathers" is Pure Oxygen!!!
Being catapulted into the lesbian lifestyle, by chance; I sought the need to educate myself on the subject. Feathering Your Nest, seemed an appropriate place to start. It was apparent from beginning to end, that the authors went far beyond writing a compendium--they, indeed lived it first--and foremost. This publication is more than a "how to" guide, yet all the necessary instructions are available at your fingertips. Answers, only for the asking. I was so totally absorbed in it, from beginning to end, and I highly reccomend it to anyone who has the desire to live a fulfilling life the way it was intended.I Have proclaimed to any who will listen,"You will be reading "Feathers" again & again, because you want to...not because you have to".Deborah Nelson-Dubronski, Ph

Fender Telecaster: The Detailed Story of America's Senior Solid Body Electric Guitar
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (February, 1992)
Authors: A. R. Duchossoir, A. R. Duchoissoir, James Burton, and Albert Lee
Average review score:

Very good, basic review of Telecaster Guitar - good value
The strength of this book is the balance between length and information. It does not offer a lot of "star reviews" on the Telecaster, rather it concentrates on the history of the guitar itself. This is a good value.

The ulitmate Tele Resource.
Almost everything you ever wanted to know about the Tele. A must for fans of Fenders.

This book sticks to its subject and explores it well
I bought this book after buying a Fender Telecaster guitar. The book is very informative as to the history of the guitar, from its origins in the early 50's through its various subtle changes over the years and up to the present time.

The book is both detailed and concise. It contains much info on the guitar, but not "more than you'd ever want to know." It is well-photographed, well written, and generally was everything I had hoped it would be when I ordered it.

Fidel's Cuba: A Revolution in Pictures
Published in Paperback by Thunder's Mouth Press (December, 1999)
Authors: Osvaldo Salas, Gregory Tozian, Jon Lee Anderson, and Roberto Salas
Average review score:

more than meets the eye
For the millions of Americans who have only ( until recently ie since the Pope's visit to Cuba ) seen Fidel as a military man this book adds a bit of humanity to that image. The imae of him as a threat to my safety is a view I could only suspect was being presented me as my government's own bit of propaganda (thinking of how recent publication's on how the Soviets used photography as a tool to control the masses) I was genuinely pleased to have my suspicions confirmed.

Nonetheless, upon opening this book, one finds that it is more than meets the eye. It is not the political treatise one might expect. I am grateful for the honesty the son (Roberto) gave in the acknowledging the irony in being both a suporter of the cause as well as a photographer/reporter of history.

Of particular interest, which I think self taught photographers may find of interest, is the many anecdotes on how Roberto and his father "made do" with what little equipment they had (both before going to Cuba and after) and how they shared equipment. Such disclosures dispell the popular belief that an aspiring photographers needs all the latest gadgetry that manufacturers pump out. The kind of "socialism they [Cubana] fought for is the kind struggling artist could practice.

From a political perspective. The book (story) of how the U.S. Government ousts individuals be they journalist or subversives is touched on. This is a book that may touch the heart and the soul of a anyone who suspects Cuba and Castro have stories to tell. Finally, it is a photographic feast of photojournalism from the inside of not only the revolution but the photographers who documented it.

Americans who hate Castro should stop, look, and listen
Apart from the amazing photography, which captures an epoch so freqently only seen through CIA-filtered eyes, the book is a simple overview of the Cuban revolution and the real people of Cuba - not just the materialistic bourgouisie - who supported Castro and still do. Most enigmatic of all are the photos of Castro and Che, and then just Che, his magnetism shining through regardless of his beliefs.

Set your politics aside. Look at this wonderful book and ponder how close Fidel and Che came to actually getting it right.

Brilliant photography with a new insight to Castro
Soon Castro may be judged by history, as he once claimed he wanted to be, and the facts point in the direction of a dark, blood-stained judgement. Nonetheless, the photography in this book is a brilliant work of photojournalist art.

They take us from the tender beginnings of a Revolution of bearded young men against a bloody tyrant. They are young gods in olive-green uniforms. The photo of Camilo Cienfuegos and another unidentified bearded guerrilla in front of the Lincoln statue in the Lincoln Memorial in DC is magnificent. What did America think of these young white men, in their dark, long hair and their huge beards? It stunned and seduced the nation and the seeds of the hippie movement were planted.

The book delivers with visual insight and power. The photographs are vivid and full of history. My highest possible rating!

Flower Drum Song
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (June, 1957)
Author: C.Y. Lee
Average review score:

Before Amy Tan there was Ching Yang Lee
I read this book many years ago and enjoyed so much that I have read everything I could find by Mr. Lee, and since then other Chinese American authors.

It is a shame that for so many years the book was rejected by young Asian Americans as being "too white face" or "Uncle Tom" as it is not so at all. C.Y. Lee was a Chinese immigrant and wrote of the society as he saw it at that time, which is not the way the younger generation, who did not live through the immigrant experience, want to see it. This is not unusual, many well schooled, well fed sucessful Americans do not want to know that their grandparents arrived in steerage with their belongings tied up in kit bag, unable to speak the language, and worked 18 hours a day in menial jobs so that their children could get ahead.

This is a poignant story of Chinese immigrant families in Southern California during the days of the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the difficulty the young American-raised men had in finding a wife. They were not allowed to bring women in from China, and they were not permitted to marry non Asians. Because of the Communist takeover, many Chinese who had dreamed of returning home to China when they retired after working all their lives were unable to do so. The situtation created an artifically stressed society. The book has tragedy and sadness, as well as hope and joy.

My only criticism of the novel, and a mild one at that, is that it frequently reads like a play script, especially in the last chapter, where there is a lot of dialogue, followed by descriptions of the action which read like stage directions. It is possible that the novel was orignally intended to be a play.

Warning, possible spoiler:

The musical version of the book which was also filmed was very loosely based on the novel, in fact one of the major characters was created for the musical. Apparently this has been done again with the new version playing on Broadway. Readers expecting to find a printed version of the musical may be disappointed.

A Great Literature for the Ages
As a child, I saw the film "Flower Drum Song" and fell in love with the film. Though at the time, it was considered a no-no amongst the Chinese community. But none of those who scorn the film had even read either the book or seen the film. It was a beautiful made film that featured Asian actors who sing, dance, performed to a melodic score by one of the most creative song writing team. Therefore, I am so glad that this book is finally come to light and to be re-embraced into literary culture. Perhaps it will hopefully quail those critics who are as narrow-minded as those who thought we are just busboys and Charlie Chans. Be enlightened, and read this great piece of story-telling of a familial saga that we can all relate--regardless if we are Chinese or not. Enjoy, read and be enchanted. As well check out the film--it might change one's opinion.

Stands the test of time
Originally published in 1957, this poignant and charming novel tells of a young man's struggle to fit in. Love, family and all the ups and downs that go with them are told with bittersweet humor. Its re-release is a wonderful companion to David Henry Hwang's new theatrical book which revives the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical on Broadway this year. Hurrah!

For the Love of Robert E. Lee: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Soho Press, Inc. (June, 1992)
Author: M. A. Harper
Average review score:

thoughtful page turner, black humor
I had heard about this book from somebody who had similary enjoyed the same speculative (not quite sci-fi) novels I like, and was sort of blown away by its oddity and fresh voice. Reality merges with time travel. Or is it all in the mind? What I like is the confusion of past and present, Civil War era with the 1960's. The author questions the nature of time itself, but isn't afraid to write paragraghs almost incongruously funny, especially when viewed against serious and rather tragic historical material. A strange and entertaining read.

an intrigue that has triggered a compulsion
Was in the authors G thru I section of my favorite used bookstore when the title of this book caught my eye. The description on the back seemed interesting, and it was certainly different from anything I had been reading, so I bought it with a, "Why not?" attitude. I absolutely love this book. I literally wept over Lee's last days in battle, and the book has kindled in me a desire to learn all about the Civil War. I am now deep into Shelby Foote's trilogy and have also purchased a dozen or so other Civil War books recommended by various experts on the net. Also, I bought two more copies of M.A. Harper's book from Amazon so that I could send one to a sister in N.C. and keep one extra to loan to friends. I am an uprooted Southerner (by choice), born the same year as the author, who identifies with so much she has written. This book has caused me to rethink so many things I had stopped thinking about, and has given me new pride in my birthplace and heritage. I may even go back to the South to wind up my days--I understand things differently, now; I no longer feel ashamed of where I'm from. I know I'm laying a lot at this book's door, but it affected me most profoundly, in many different ways. And I am always reading, I'm never without a book--I'm picky about what I'll spend my time reading, and I won't waste my time with junk. Harper's book just blew me away! I hope she keeps writing.

Re: Not a romance novel (review already posted 11/18/00)
I think I need to retract the (very favorable) review I just wrote about this book yesterday. The author is a very close personal friend, and believes it unethical for me to submit it. Maybe she's right, because I am partial to her in many things, although my stated opinion of the work is true. In any case, she doesn't want to see her credibility questioned in any way, so please squelch my review, since she's pretty worried about this. Thank you.
